GRAMMAR · CASES · VERBS · NUMBERS · ORDER

14 cases, but only a handful do the daily work.

Every Estonian noun is learned as three forms. All other cases are built from the genitive stem.

  • Nimetav (nominative) — the dictionary form, used for the subject: raamat.
  • Omastav (genitive) — possession and the base for other cases: raamatu.
  • Osastav (partitive) — partial objects, after numbers and after negation: raamatut.
